The preparation phase is performed under local anaesthesia and is painless. Some mild sensitivity to hot and cold may persist for a few days after preparation, which fades once the final veneers are bonded. The bonding appointment is completely painless.
Yes. The thin layer of enamel removed during preparation cannot be regrown, so once you commit to veneers your teeth will always need veneers or crowns going forward. This is why we always discuss conservative alternatives first.
No. Porcelain veneers are highly stain-resistant — far more so than natural enamel. Coffee, tea, red wine, and turmeric do not discolour them. The thin cement line at the gum can pick up some staining over many years but is easily polished.
Quality e.max veneers at The Tooth Story typically last 10–15 years, with many cases lasting longer. Lifespan depends on the bonding, your bite, and whether you grind your teeth. A nightguard is recommended for grinders.
Veneers cover only the front surface of a tooth and need very minimal preparation. Crowns cover the entire tooth and need significant preparation. Veneers are for cosmetic improvements; crowns are for structurally compromised teeth (e.g. after a root canal).
